We stopped by our site this evening. My son wanted to see "the hole". Rain storms are supposed to happen this weekend so we are curious to see if they do any more work with the concrete. Might have to wait until Monday.

First Day of Construction
It still feels surreal that we are building a house! We've always dreamed of being homeowners and it still hasn't sunk in that we soon will be. I stopped by our lot on my way to work to take the "before" shot. Got a call during the day from our sales rep stating that we needed to come in and sign our Guardian order change form. So I had my excuse to stop by after work and check out the digging.

Extended Lock-In
Sadly, the 90 day rate lock that we wanted to do is no longer available. For the 15 year fixed loan at the rates they are (which are AMAZING!) they are not offering extended locking. So we are eagerly awaiting for about 3 more weeks to pass until we can do the usual free rate lock 60 days out.
I got the call from our PM to tell us that construction starts in the morning! Can't wait!

Pre-Con Meeting
We had our pre-construction meeting today. It lasted about 1.5 hours. Our PM is wonderful. We also met the PM-in-training and he seemed like a great guy too. There were no "surprises" at the meeting...everything matched up with our selections.
Construction is slated to start Wednesday. We'll get a phone call from our PM tommorrow to verify. He just needed to verify that our permit went through. We walked our lot with the PM and discussed the easements on it. It was staked out so we got a good visual of where the house will be situated. The foundation will take 1.5 weeks with framing scheduled to be started 22 Aug. We are the first of the "new wave" of houses to be built...by about 2 weeks. So we'll be the ones to hold the rest up...not the other way around!
Right now we are slated for the 3rd week of October to close. The PM did a good job explaining the construction schedule. He will, at the least, give us a call once a week with updates from the past week and the plan for the upcoming week.
Now the decision is to wait to lock in our rate or go ahead and pay a little bit to keep our 3.75% that it is at right now....the debate....
The battery in our camera died...so I plan on going tommorrow to get some pictures of the stakes!

Guardian Meeting
Met with the rep from Guardian today. He did a good job of explaining everything they offer. We decided on the security system (6 months free!), intercom system, and 2 extra cable outlets. Loved the home audio system but we don't think we'd use it enough to make the price worth it! One more week until our pre-con meeting :)

Pre-Con Meeting Scheduled
Our pre-construction meeting is scheduled for the 8th of August! With building slated to begin that same week. Our permits have not been approved but should be before the meeting. If not, it will push everything back a little bit. I inquired again about the lack of contact with Guardian. Our sales rep emailed the actual guy who has the meetings (and cc'd us) so hopefully we get the phone call soon. Only have 6 more work days to meet with them.

NVR and Guardian
Got approval from NVR...one more thing completed! Contacted our sales rep to inquire when we should be expecting to hear from Guardian. Was told it should be soon...only 12 more days until our tentative pre-construction meeting. She said she would contact Guardian yet again.
On a good note, one of my coworkers offered us all of her packing boxes (she just finished moving)! Picked them up last night and have them stored in the garage. One less thing to worry about in a few months.
